When I pictured Alaska, the image painted in my imagination resembled Seward. Seward is the quintessential Alaskan destination. In this small town you will find everything from the foggy harbor, extraordinary glaciers and ample wildlife. There are ample things to do in Seward, Alaska for those looking to experience the beautiful natural surroundings and wildlife.

Seward Boat Harbor

The Seward Boat Harbor is one of the most idyllic spots in town. The harbor is full of all types of boats; from ferries to fishing vessels. Beyond the harbor there is a wonderful stretch of mountains, seemingly enclosing the harbor. Spend some time walking the docks to check out the boats and views. Keep an eye out for the adorable otters, who are often found by the harbor. From the docks there is a wonderful view of the Harbor 360 Hotel. The Harbor 360 Hotel is the perfect place to stay if you’re spending the night in Seward.

Spend Time in Town

The town is relatively small. You could walk the entire town in under 20 minutes. Stroll past the stores overlooking the harbor, popping in and out of the small souvenir shops. I checked out the Mermaid Co. boutique and the AK Starfish Co. for some window shopping. Mermaid Co. boutique had stylish yet practical pieces, such a fun rain boats and jackets perfect for Alaska. Starfish Co. has the best souvenirs including cozy sweatshirts, locally designed jewelry and soaps. Next, I headed over to Alaska Seafood Grill for a quick meal. Alaska Seafood Grill has a casual atmosphere but had the best french fries I have ever had. Keep in mind that a lot of shops and restaurants aren’t open until the high season (Beginning late April/ early May).

Seward

Lowell Point

Head South of Seward toward the Lowell Point Recreation Area. Stop after you pass the waterfall to explore this area. Here you will find the Lowell Creek Waterfall that flows roadside as well as a beach area. The beach is a relaxing spot to view Resurrection Bay.
