Nestled in the heart of Vermont’s stunning Green Mountains, Smugglers’ Notch is a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Staying at a hotel near this scenic winding road is a dream. With the proximity of Stowe, there are plenty of hotels in this area to choose from. Yet, if you’re like me, you’re likely searching for a place to stay that allows you to appreciate the winding tree-lined road and views of Mount Mansfield. There are a handful of hotels that tik all those boxes. These hotels near Smugglers’ Notch will make your trip to Vermont that much more memorable.
It’s important to note that there are no hotels directly on the winding part of the road that we know as Smugglers’ Notch. However, Smugglers’ Notch is a part of Route 108. There are some incredible hotels along Route 108, just at the base of Smugglers’ Notch.
If you’re planning a trip to Stowe in the Fall, you’ll want to make sure to book your hotels in advance. We booked our accommodations in August and the only affordable hotel left in Stowe was the Talta Lodge. Turns out, we hit the jackpot with that property as the Talta Lodge is a stunning hotel near Smugglers’ Notch.

The Lodge at Spruce Peak is considered to be one of the best hotels in Vermont. This property is directly across from Mount Mansfield, and the rooms offer unparalleled views of the mountain. Located just a short drive from Smugglers’ Notch, the Topnotch Resort and Spa is a world-class destination that caters to both outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a relaxing retreat. The Talta Lodge is where I stayed during my Fall trip to Stowe. This property is cool and cozy with Scandinavian design elements. This hotel was in the perfect location and had some wonderful amenities that made for a relaxing stay, including an indoor pool with floor-to-ceiling windows to take in the view and a sauna. Innsbruck Inn at Stowe
True to its name, Innsbruck Inn at Stowe looks like it has been plucked out of the mountains of the Austrian Alps. This property was recently renovated in 2022, so don’t allow some of the photos that show up on Google to deter you from staying here. Tips for Booking Smugglers’ Notch Hotels
When it comes to booking hotels near Smugglers’ Notch, there are a few tips and strategies that can help ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience.
Book in Advance
It’s important to plan ahead and book your accommodations well in advance if you are visiting during peak travel seasons. For Stowe, this is usually in the fall and winter. If you are visiting during peak foliage, many hotels in the region will be sold out. Be sure to secure your hotel ASAP, especially if you want to stay at one of these properties above.
Be Ready for Traffic
The hotels listed above are only accessible from Mountain Road, Route 108. There is bound to be traffic during peak season, especially considering that many of the seasonal attractions can be found near Smugglers’ Notch. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time if you’re leaving or coming back to your hotel mid-day in the Fall so you don’t stress yourself out.
